"Swimming In This Heat"
Spring is finally here,
In all it's glory.
Grass is green, flowers ablooming,
And trees all leafed out.

The heat comes early this year,
Not waiting till summer.
One wonders what it will be like,
When those months do arrive.

Working in the yard,
At midday and beyond,
With the sun shinning brightly,
Never even a cloud passing by.

Stopping to rest a bit,
And to cool the brow.
Seeking shade somewhere,
And trying not to faint.

I used to be able to tolerate,
This heat much better.
Guess I'm getting too old,
For this kind of torture.

There comes a time,
In one's life,
When it's better to except;
Defeat is not all that bad.

Tis better to ask for help,
In all the outside chores.
Let someone much younger
Do these endless duties.

Maybe if I lost something,
Of this flabby body,
I could still do what needs done,
Instead of swimming in this heat.
