"Sunsets"
As I sit here watching the sun go down
Below the horizon one more time,
I can't help but wonder at the beauty
That I have been priviledged to find
In this life of mine.

So many different colors
there are To behold
as I look on and watch
it sink out of sight for one more day.
And yet even when it is out of sight,
Its' light still mingles with the sky
To produce even more beauty.

And so it has been through my life.
So warm it seems when all is bright
That we forget to appreciate
The beauty that is there for us to behold.
So many things that we barely notice
Till the light begins to fall.

How often we forget
To fully appreciate
The smile of a child.
Or the touch of one we love.

Do we marvel any longer
At the rainbow,
Or merely pass it by?
Does a shooting star
Still bring us hope,
Or merely make us wonder
Where it will fall?

I have no question
Just what we have lost
Since growing up.
Now that we can no longer
Wonder at the mere sight of a tree.
We used to see the birds
That were there,
And squirrels and chipmunks too.
And now we hope it doesn't shed
It's leaves for us to rake.

With all the pressures building up,
Each day just to survive.
We often fall to even see
What's always there as we go rushing by.
The little things
That always were so marvelous to see.
The now just sit there patiently,
Waiting for us to notice once again.

But next time you feel harried,
And nothing seems quite right,
Just look at one small child near you,
And see the light in his eyes.
He hasn't lost his wonder,
Or the ability to see beauty
In the marvels all around.

Just stop yourself and sit there,
And set your memory free.
Remember all the beauty
You once saw in life
And everything around.
And if you really want to see
What life is all about,
Just take a child upon a hill
At sunset to observe.
Don't waste your time
Just looking there,
But at how he sees it
Through his eyes.
