"Oklahoma Summers"
It's summer time here,
So bold and  sometimes very windy.
The sun shines so brightly,
In it's last daily rays.

The sky takes on beautiful hues,
Of golds and fading blues.
Not a cloud can be seen,
As the ground steals the heat.

Soon the horizon will change,
To oranges and purples.
Then the sky will fall,
To a quiet deep ebony.

Stars will shine bright,
Throughout the night.
Few people will look out,
To see them ever twinkling.

Then the night life will roam about,
Crickets, frogs and Katydids and cats on the prowl.
But it's as it should be with God's little creatures,
For they too will settle in to sleep thru the night.

Time will pass quickly,
And morning will come again.
The sun will rise,
Whether cloudy or not.

And summer will soon fade,
With only small moans.
Children will return to school,
As parents sigh with relief.

But before the last days of summer ends,
People will go out and play.
Swimming, hiking, picnicing,
Or maybe just sitting soaking up the sun.

Just watch the highways fill,
With last minute vacationers.
People trying to squeeze all the fun,
Out of the last days of summer.

Such as it is,
Here in Oklahoma.
Cool Springs, Hot Summers,
Warm Falls and mild Winters.

I imagine that everyone out there,
Can say the same about their state.
But I like it here at any rate,
And to me there's nothing like
Oklahoma summers.
