Days gone by every one,
And memories come to my mind.
Sadness as well as happy times,
Stand forth in my thoughts.
Remembering all those days,
Sometimes brings tears.
A friend or relative moved away,
But mostly the ones lost and gone.
Watching a cloudy and rainy day,
Only sets the scene in my heart.
Sadness is like those kinds of days,
And makes me feel so forlorn.
It seems as I grow older,
I lose more and more people I love.
Friends I've never seen,
And family so far away.
I've only been able to attend,
A very few of thier goodbyes.
But that does not mean,
I never wept for their passing.
There is a day set aside,
So everyone can remember.
We decorate thier final places,
With flowers, flags and love.
That special day on our calendar,
Is always there to see.
But why should we wait,
To remember people we love only then?
I guess it's just as well,
This day comes but once a year.
For we would be too sad
Missing loved ones too often.
So I say to you,
And to myself as well.
Remember our loved ones,
But remember them well.
On this day of 'Memorial',
Tender your mind and heart.
Cry not because a loved one is gone,
But cry for the loss you feel.
Place your bouquet of flowers,
On their resting place.
Then remember and smile,
At the good times from the past.
