Children are such a joy,
Especially when they are babies.
The cute little smiles,
That brings dimples to their cheeks.
Their infectuous laughter,
That only babies can induce.
But children grow up as children do,
And break a heart or two.
They go thru several phases in their lives,
Which is very natural as psychiatrists say.
But we love them just the same,
No matter what trouble they get into.
Then came the day when our children got married,
And we took a breath of relief as we watched them leave.
But then we worried about how they're doing,
Are they too young for such a responsibility,
Or will they stay happy with one another always?
Then came the grandbabies,
And it started all over again.
We cooed at their cuteness,
And laughed at their antics.
The same as we did,
When our children were young.
Grandchildren are different,
As some of you know.
You get to babby sit for a little while,
And have lots of fun in doing so.
But when the time comes,
You get to send these kids home.
Somehow we still worry,
If our children are doing things right.
We wonder if they are taking care,
To give our grandchildren what they need.
So we offer to help anyway we can,
But they accuse us of spoiling our grandkids.
Spoiling grandchildren is a grandparents right,
Because we want them to have everything and more.
We buy them clothes and toys and things,
In order to make them think we're better than we are.
We really want to make up for the things we couldn't do,
When our kids were still very young.
As the grandchildren grow into young adults
The gifts we give them cost a lot more.
So we give them less stuff,
And compensate with more love.
But they don't seem to mind ... too much,
Because they some how do understand.
All in all life is so very fine,
As we grow older with each new year.
We only hope we live long enough,
To maybe see those cute greatgrandchildren.
We still feel young in our hearts and minds,
But we hope our bodies will hold out too.
Sometimes it's a little too much,
But we know it will all turn out alright.
Our children are doing fine now,
And we're sure their children will also do.
Hope brings with it faith,
And faith brings with it love.
This is what we've strived so long for,
In raising our young in this day and age.
Teaching our children faith and love,
Has transferred the same to their kids too.
Families that have this trait,
Will stay together forever, we hope.
I'm not saying that our family is perfect,
We've had our problems as most people do.
But we overcame the barriers and trials,
In doing so we became stronger as a unit.
And our love for each other grew ever more,
As well as our faith in what God has in store.
No matter how old we get,
We still worry about silly little things.
We worry about our children when they are young,
And even during their adulthood.
Then we worry about their married life,
And the grandchildren as they come.
It seems that parents are forever in a state,
No matter what we do to give our kids the best.
Maybe it's God's way of giving us something to do,
As we grow old and our bodies become decrepit.
God knows we need something to occupy our minds,
And kids are what really keeps our hearts alive.
