"Have You Ever Listened?"
Have you ever Listened,
To the sounds of darkness?
The deepness of silence,
That nothing can penetrate;
A kind of stillness
That can come with calmness.
Have you ever listened,
To the music of the night?
The sounds birds make,
When they sleep,
And crickets chirping,
Their mating calls.
Have you ever listened,
The the sound of a dark room?
The quiet blackness,
When no one's around;
A creak here and there,
Of the house settling down.
Have you ever listened,
To the calm of someone's mind?
The contintment and joy,
Of a special friendship;
And knowing that conversation
Is sometimes not needed.
Have you ever listened,
To an approaching footfall?
Knowing all the while,
Just who is there;
And feeling the elation
When they are near.
Have you ever listened,
When a child speaks?
The softnes of their voice,
And musical laughter;
A sound full of happiness,
In inticipation of a hug.
Have you ever listened,
to the laughter of a child?
A giggle so deep,
It denies inhabition;
A music all it's own,
To any one's ears.
Have you ever listened,
To a lover's kiss?
The softness of the mouth,
As it touches another;
A kind of sweet languish
As they part.
Have you ever listened,
To a falling tear?
The sadness or joy,
That it may endure;
A silent track down the cheek,
To finally drop from the chin.
Have you ever listened,
To slowly falling rain?
The liquid drops against the pane,
That makes you yearn,
For sleep and dreams.
Have you ever listened,
To the fluffiness of snowflakes?
Shapes of different sizes;
A silence so intense,
It fills a great void.
Have you ever listened,
To a beating heart?
A lover's pitter patter,
That signals excitement;
Building to a cresendo,
Yet soothing to the ear.
I have listened,
To all these things.
The sounds that make me
Engjoy my long life;
And an eagerness
To hear much more.
I hope you have listened,
To these same such sounds.
Even if you can't hear,
Thru no fault of your own;
I know you can imagine
Each and every musical note.
